Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the frequency of consumption and preferences of frozen desserts (ice-cream and sorbets) consumed by adults, and to assess their knowledge about these products as probiotics. The study was conducted among 52 people (aged 19-50) by means of the indirect method, Computer-Assisted Web Interview. It was concluded that the subjects preferred natural probiotics, had basic knowledge of probiotics, preferably consumed ice-cream several times a week in summer months, and preferred chocolate and cream flavours of ice-cream and raspberry flavour of sorbets. The respondents had not heard of probiotic ice-cream but were willing to try and include them in their diet. Because of health benefits of probiotic ice-cream, it is advisable to promote them among consumers as elements that supplement and diversify their diet.(original abstract)
