Abstract

The aim of the study is to present the role of snacks in the daily diet in Poland and the world. Based on national and global surveys, the current state of knowledge is discussed, including snacks recommended and not recommended in the human diet for different age groups. Snack consumption is a significant contributor to the eating habits of teenagers in particular. Knowledge of the impact of feeding behavior connected with eating snack on body weight and health status is critical to determine public actions to promote healthy eating habits. Taste preferences for snacks have been shown to vary by region or country. The dynamically developing meat snacks sector in Poland and in the world was indicated. Purchasing decisions concerning snacks should be based on consumer knowledge, acquired mainly during school education, complemented by information from the mass media and a far-reaching consideration/prudence.
