Abstract

The research area of existence and classification of barriers to development in small and medium-sized enterprises is the subject of numerous studies. However, it is rarely indicated the scale of impact of these barriers on individual enterprises from the heterogeneous group that the SME sector is. The main objective of the study was to identify barriers to development for enterprises, taking into account the criterion of the size of business entities and to assess the scale of their impact on the enterprises depending on their size. The research allowed to identify the most important barriers affecting the functioning of enterprises, i.e. low profitability, lack of proper vertical and horizontal integration, fluctuations in raw material prices with the statement of the strength of their impact depending on the size of the enterprises.(original abstract)
