Industrial Development in Poland in the 1930s
Keywords:
industry, lata trzydzieste XX w., Druga RzeczpospolitaAbstract
The economic situation of Poland in the 1930s was characterized by big extremes: from the great economic crisis to accelerated development in the second half of the decade. The aim of the article is to trace the development of industry over second decade of reborn Poland. The article uses statistical data on the discussed issues and uses the source analysis method and description method. It was based on both pre-war and post-war literature. Changes in the economic situation were reflected in the condition of the industry, the importance of which was growing. The intention of the government was to transform the country from an agriculturalindustrial one into an industrial-agricultural one. The ambitious goals that guided the economic policy were not fully achieved, but efforts were made to ensure the country’s development and, despite economic and political difficulties, they were largely achieved. The largest investment in the interwar period comes to the fore: the Central Industrial District. The crisis also intensified the process of cartelization of the industry, which resulted in an open “price scissors”. In the late 1930s, the harmful activity of capital resulted in the polonization of global corporations.
