[Work in progress] Evolution and Prospective Future of BLIK: A Case Study

Abstract

Aim: This paper aims to define the development prospects of BLIK, including the determinants shaping it. By investigating the factors driving BLIK's growth, this paper highlights how BLIK has become a major player in the payment sector.

Methodology: A thematic literature review and analysis of secondary data, including data from the National Bank of Poland, as well as the results of other scientific studies and reports, were used to achieve the aim. The discussion of BLIK's advantages was based on a functional model of payment execution.

Findings: The effective marketing strategy of the system and its informational-promotional campaign contributed to BLIK expansion in Polish payment market. The main limitation of using BLIK is the need for a smartphone and sufficient skills to operate it, which creates a barrier for digitally excluded individuals. However, analyses indicate further strengthening of BLIK's position in Poland and its expansion into foreign markets, as evidenced by the adaptation of some foreign terminals to accept BLIK payments.

Implications: BLIK's growing popularity influences consumers' payment preferences, helps entrepreneurs attract Polish customers, and requires financial institutions to adapt their offerings and infrastructure.

Originality/value: This paper's unique contribution is its analysis of the key factors behind BLIK's rise, underscoring its significant impact on the payment sector.
